In the previous articles, we took you on a journey through the various forms and techniques of home composting.

We’ve seen merits and defects of one compared to another, from pile composting to composting with a professional or homemade composter. Today is time to make a summary and talk about advantages and limits of home composting itself.

8 Benefits of Home Composting

If composting is performed in a serious and systematic way, it allows to:

  1. Reduce wet waste separating them mechanically from other waste categories present in the differentiated collection bin or in the various bags for door to door collection service, i.e. plastic, glass, metals, etc;
  2. Reduce wet waste delivered to landfills or other destinations used in waste collection, such as incinerators, waste to energy plant, biomass plants.
  3. Prevent atmospheric pollutants production which would generate from waste combustion.
  4. Compost small quantities of organic material (with plastic composter).
  5. Possibility to compost also on your house balcony (with plastic composter).
  6. Improve soil fertility.
  7. Limit the purchase and use of chemical fertilizers.

8 Disadvantages and Limits of Home Composting

  1. Bad odors; presence of bad odors most of all if there’s not a good draining system for percolate.
  2. Bugs, especially fruit flies.
  3. Rats, stray animals and rodents.
  4. Problems with neighbors (most of all with composting made on balconies and small gardens).
  5. Necessity to have a garden/green area of at least ten square meters i.e. many municipalities require that a pile or composter be made at 5 mt distance from the border. This does not allow composting on balconies or small gardens.
  6. It’s a slow process, compost maturation is obtain in a long period of time (months).
  7. Time: a good composting process requires a continue monitoring process and actions (turning, water and material addition).
  8. External temperature: the process is influenced by temperature decrease (most of all for pile composting).

The Future of Composting

Think about big urban spaces, skyscrapers and structures Wouldn’t it be great if they could produce every day 90% less of wet waste obtaining advantages for them, the community and the environment? Have you ever thought about valid alternatives, new technologies, which overcome limits and disadvantages of home composting?

The answers is yes and is called Ecodyger. Ecodyger is a new technology that permits to overcome all composting limits and is able to go even further, providing many more advantages.

Ecodyger reduces drastically the wet waste at the source. Today it is possible, with small space, short time and without dedicating further resources to monitor and follow this activity. Today, where it is not possible to practice home composting there’s a valid alternative which maintains all composting advantages.

Ecodyger eliminates all Home Composting disadvantages

  • Bad odors absence, Ecodyger neutralizes bad odors and gives at the end of its cycle a solid residue, having the smell of natural soil
  • Bugs absence and most of all flies, Ecodyger’s solid residue is free from any wet scraps, cause of their presence.
  • Bacteria and pathogens elimination, Ecodyger tank to its patented process, neutralize them at 100%
  • It does not attract stray animals, rats and rodents, because, as for bugs, the solid residue is free from wet waste
  • No problems with neighbors (no bad odor or unpleasant sight)
  • No need to have green areas or balconies, Ecodyger occupies the space of a normal home appliance
  • Short time, a complete cycle lasts a few hours instead of months.
  • No time needed, after loading the machine and starting the cycle, just wait the end ot the cycle itself (few hours) and unload the small quantity of small residue collected in the proper container
  • No monitoring or activities needed during the cycle; once the cycle is started, it will just be necessary to wait the end of the cycle and recover the solid residue in its drawer.
  • No dependence from external agents like temperature, humidity; Ecodyger works always in optimal conditions without being affected by these agents that greatly influence the composting process.

Ecodyger produces a 100% optimal natural fertilizer

Ecodyger reduces wet waste from 70 up to 90% of the original volume and weight, living, at the end of the cycle, a solid residue that is a real resource. In fact, the solid residue is for its chemical characteristics a quality compost, a 100% natural fertilizer and a valid soil improver mixed compost.

Chemical analyses made by internationally registered labs confirm that the solid residue fits perfectly in the parameters of Legislative Decree 75/2010 regulating fertilizers. In particular, Annex 2 of the decree defines limits for soil improvers from compost.

It is possible to use Ecodyger’s solid residue for private use,  horticultural fertilizer or to correct hydro geological qualities of too sandy or too clayey soils. Ecodyger allows to save money on chemical fertilizers purchase.

Have you ever thought of doing all this within the walls of your house or inside your commercial area, be it a restaurant, hotel, a canteen, a hospital, a bar, a camping or a fast food restaurant?
